Is One Dollar Further a charity?
No. One Dollar Further is currently run independently by me.
It started from a simple desire to use the opportunity I have to explore the world to do something positive along the way.
It isn’t a registered charity or nonprofit, and I don’t want to present it as one. It starts small, with voluntary contributions, curiosity, and an idea worth trying.
Where it goes from here is part of the experiment.
Do I have to send exactly $1?
Not at all.
One dollar is the idea at the heart of the project, but you can contribute whatever you feel comfortable with.
$1 is enough to be part of it.
How are contributions used?
Right now, One Dollar Further is starting very simply.
I’m already backpacking through Asia for the next month or two and paying for all of my travel expenses myself. Contributions to One Dollar Further aren’t there to fund that trip.
Instead, they give me something extra to take further along the way, through the people, ideas and opportunities I come across and the positive things I can make happen.
I honestly don’t know exactly where the project will lead yet, and I think that’s part of what makes it interesting.
Wherever it goes, I want to keep sharing the journey openly, including how the project develops and what contributions make possible along the way.
How do I know this is real?
I don’t expect anyone to trust a new project simply because I say they should.
One Dollar Further starts at zero, and trust has to be earned from there.
I’ll share the journey openly so people can see where the project is going, what I’m doing, and what contributions are making possible.
I’d rather show what happens than make big promises about what will happen.
Can I decide exactly where my contribution goes?
Not right now.
Contributions become part of One Dollar Further as a whole rather than being individually assigned to a specific person or destination.
That gives the project room to respond to the people, ideas and opportunities I actually encounter instead of making promises before I know what I’ll find.
What happens to money that isn’t used?
It keeps going further.
One Dollar Further isn’t tied to one destination or one moment. Contributions that aren’t used immediately stay with the project and continue towards whatever comes next.
Can I suggest a person, place or idea?
Absolutely.
If there’s a person, community, place or simply an idea you think I should know about, I want to hear it.
I can’t promise I’ll be able to act on every suggestion, but some of the best directions for this project may come from people following it.
Can I be part of this without sending money?
Of course.
Share an idea. Introduce me to someone. Tell someone about One Dollar Further. Follow the journey. Or simply see where it goes.
A dollar is one way to take the idea further. It isn’t the only one.
What if One Dollar Further becomes much bigger?
I don’t want to define too much of that before the project has even started.
Right now, I’m already travelling through Asia and paying for all of my travel expenses myself. Contributions to One Dollar Further aren’t there to fund that trip.
If the project eventually grows significantly, it could open up possibilities that don’t exist today. For example, it could make it possible to travel somewhere specifically because there is a person, community or project worth visiting, rather than only working with the places I already happen to be travelling through.
If the way One Dollar Further uses contributions ever changes as the project grows, I want to be clear about that before it happens.
For now, it starts small. The priority is simply to see whether the idea works and what the contributions can actually make possible.
